I am back again after a long hiatus and I promise not to stay away so long this time. The T.V. is partly to blame for my absence. I have become a Reality T.V. fanatic, recognizing that I no longer watch regular television.
Speaking of reality shows, one that prompted me to post is the new one on BET called Tiny & Toya, where they chronicle the lives of the longtime girlfriend and ex-wife to two of the biggest names in Hip Hop, T.I.P and Lil Wayne respectively.
I know that I shouldn’t define the women by their association to these artists, being that the show is based on these two women seeking their own identity outside of the shadow of their men.
Every week while watching the show, I feel like I am tuned into Telemundo when the costar Tiny opens her mouth - yikes. With the two episodes I have watched so far, I am constantly racking my brain wondering if she is slurring from alcohol or suffering from a speech impediment.
Initially, I thought it was the heavy southern drawl, but I quickly dispel that thought when I heard her co-star, Toya, speak. Toya is from the South, actually further south than Georgia, Louisiana, and I don’t need a translator when she speaks. Actually Toya is very endearing with her southern accent.
Tiny is not even speaking “Ebonics,” because I understand that very well. I am beginning to think this girl made up her own language.
